Melissa Anderson earned her B.A. in Honors History from the University of Washington in Seattle in 2003, and completed her Ph.D. in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2015. Her Fulbright-funded dissertation offers an original study on policing in French colonial Vietnam to better understand the nature, causes, and limits of colonial violence on the street level. After graduating, Melissa put her historical knowledge and writing skills to work for Paris Muse, an educational private tour company in France. As Editorial Projects Manager, for 3 years she created client-facing content, co-created new tours, produced a promotional blog and newsletter, and led walking tours in Paris. Since returning to the U.S. in 2018, Melissa divides her time between freelance editing and volunteering in animal rescue. (contact mlanderson6@wisc.edu)
